Umbrella DAY!

February 9, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce that according to this source the 10th February is umbrella day. Yes, it is.

Take your favourite brolly for a walk, send a friend a cheesy umbrella-themed e-card (see, it really is umbrella day), or better than all of that – buy an umbrella

Here are some more links about umbrella day: The Swcaffer Family Album, Idea Box and Dunloggin. None can explain who decided that it’s today or why. Please let me know if you have any idea. To celebrate the whole mysterious shebang here’s a great brolly love song (might get you in the mood for the weekend too).

I just checked out the opening credits and am determined to find it somewhere…

From this it would seem that the umbrellas are made by ONM. And very nice they must be if this example on ebay is anything to go by.

Should umbrellas be used for snow?

I wouldn’t use an umbrella if it was raining lightly or if it was really hot and I wanted to cool off. For me it’s a luxury item which gets flaunted when absolutely needed, or when it really goes with my outfit, or as an essential part of a dance routine…

People use umbrellas to less conventional ends that mere raindrop dodging.

They can be used to kill by people like Francesco Gullino, the umbrella assassin of the Bulgarian dissident and BBC broadcaster Georgi Markov, or these lasses who stabbed a girl in the eye at a station with the tip of their brolly.

Fortunately, most umbrella-related violence is less gruesome and more entertaining. Like this…
